Sponge painting is the decorative application or removal of paint glaze on or from a wall (or other flat surface). In fact, even today, sponge is usually the first faux finish most people try in their homes, it's the most versatile decorative paint finish, quick, easy and inexpensive to make, and any home improvement can be done using a material and tool center or paint store.
Paint sponging produce highly textured finishes that offer not only decorative value, but also a number of practical benefits.
Camouflage many defects and hide surface imperfections, making it an ideal painting solution for old walls in poor condition and an inexpensive alternative to drywall.
Hide dirt in areas that tend to get dirty and stained - kitchens, hallways, mudrooms and children's rooms.
Stand up to use in high traffic areas because oil glazes are durable, latex glazes can be coated with a sealer over the topcoat for extra protection, and random patterns are easy to touch up inconspicuously if needed.

The sponge painting technique can be done on any flat, painted surface - walls, ceilings, floors and even furniture.
The look can range from delicate to bold and can be adapted to any decorating style (the end result will depend on the color you choose, the transparency and gloss of the glaze, and the strength of the application).
For sponging, a related but quieter technique, you first roll the glaze onto the painted surface and then remove some of the wet glaze with a sponge.
This treatment will produce a more subtle, softer mottled finish, with the emphasis placed more on color than texture.
In addition, the two methods can be used in combination for greater visual depth or as part of other decorative painting techniques (e.g., faux marble effects).

First of all, you must buy a real quality natural sea sponge in order to get the best sponge painting technique.
Secondly, to get the best sponge painting results, it is important to fill in any cracks or holes, if any.
Use a slightly contrasting lighter color for the opposite side of the paint and it is important that the contrast between colors is not too great.
The primer that has been painted on the walls should be dried and then the walls should be wiped down with a lighter color of paint.
The sponge should be dipped in water before being dipped into the lighter color or paint, then "circular" with your wrist, then apply the lighter shade to the darker paint surface, transforming a once bland surface into a mottled effect.
If you accidentally make some walls too "spotty", wait until all the paint is dry before painting over them.
Don't forget to paint in the corners.
The moment of reckoning has arrived - step back and admire your masterpiece.
